Paul's Perspective........  Education First

            Nothing builds greater pride in one’s own trade than a good education in that trade. There are many fine trades that young people should take notice in, everything from teaching to nursing to engineering to plumbing; each one of them having an endless amount of knowledge to be sought after. Even if someone was to think that they had mastered their trade, new information is constantly being created, engineered and proven out so no one ever has any business becoming stagnant in their trade or profession.

The commitment that one makes in their trade through their education is reaped in benefits two fold. The first is obvious; a good education equals a great foundation. Obviously your formal education is not the ending point but in reality the starting point for any trade or profession. Anyone who thinks different is greatly disillusioned.  The second benefit is the roots you’ve established in that trade. In most cases the school commitment is anywhere between two and five years. You won’t be so discouraged when you face complication. You’ll have so much committed to education that on the job challenges will seem minor. From experience I can tell you, employees that have put themselves through school handle the everyday obstacles comparably effortlessly next to employees who are trying to learn the trade on the job. 

We, as a company have approached teaching the trade of machining in two different ways. In the past we would spend lots of time one on one with new employees teaching and grooming each one individually. What we felt for the most part was that we were creating employees that always looked to us (company leaders) for all their answers. After all, this is the situation we created. By having employees go to college while they’re learning the trade, gives them a sense of ownership in their trade. They no longer look to us for answers on how jobs should be done, but rather look toward themselves. Although neither system is fool proof and we have had success and failures both ways, the latter has proven to be the better system for us to use.

In our case we are willing to pay 100% of our apprentices education, the time we spent one on one was probably even more costly. So any way you look at it, a good formal education is the right way to go.

Who's Who at Fronhofer Tool........ Introducing Dana Bosch

Just over a year ago, Dana Bosch came to work for Fronhofer Tool.  He was hired on to work as a fabricator, his responsibilities starting with but not limited to welding and grinding.

Dana has an artistic flare that shows both inside and outside of work.  Prior to working at Fronhofer Tool, Dana worked as a welder where he spent much of his free time building metal sculptures with scrap steel, a welder and a grinder.  Being artistic is a great quality for a welder, we have the additional benefit with Dana having good attention for detail. 

Art has been a constant for Dana since high school, if he’s not constructing with steel he’s creating with his song writing. Dana has been the lead vocalist in the band “Kontraband,” where he can sing (sometimes his own music) and expand on his own artistic talents.

            Dana who describes himself as a sensitive family guy, enjoys spending time with his eleven-year old son Brayden and his fiancé, Maryann. Together they enjoy spending most of their free time in the great outdoors, hunting, motorcycle riding etc.

            Dana is reliable, quick and efficient, all the while maintaining good attendance record. His constant commitment to continually improve himself makes him an ideal employee. Everyone enjoys working with Dana and that makes for a great work environment.
