New equipment adds to Fronhofer Tool's arsenal of large
machining capabilities The Mighty Viper Vertical Bridge Machine Whenever we buy a new piece of major equipment we also have to be able to predict the future if we want the acquisition to help grow our company. We only have a limited amount of resources and we want them to be able to work as hard as possible for us. We also want to grow in a direction that we feel comfortable and confident in.
With the purchase of our new Viper machining center I feel we have met these goals. This machine being by far our largest investment to date takes all our concerns into consideration. Machining center work has been our forte and large machining is a direction we’ve been heading in with each new machine purchase. We really took a giant step with this purchase. The viper has a machining area large enough to park my full size pick-up truck on. This machine has huge advantages over our existing machining centers in shear size. We will no longer have to make multiple set-ups on several of our existing jobs and in many cases we will be able to fixture several jobs at one time. This machine was ordered with every available control option as well as a full fourth axis that is compatible with our other machining centers. We are expecting the arrival of this machine in mid July (changed to late September). It gets shipped from California basically as one, one hundred and twelve thousand pound unit! We have our work cut out for us just preparing for the arrival. It’s always exciting getting new equipment and often it helps keep the entire company pumped. All the employees enjoy seeing growth as well as our customers and myself. We feel this should pacify us for a while but who knows, sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be an end. Three current jobs that will provide good candidates for the new machining center.
2) These screens which in some cases take up to four setups each to complete can now be done in one setup with enough room on the work surface to have another screen waiting to be machined.
3) Here's another job that will go on the Viper machine after turning is done, which also used to be several setups. Similar jobs to this that weighed in excess of 5-tons will now easily fall within the capabilities of the machine, which was not the case in the past.
